The cloth may turn black as it lifts away the tarnish—that’s completely normal. Don’t wash the cloth, because washing will remove its polishing treatment.
A regular microfiber cloth can remove fingerprints, skin oils, and surface dirt, but it may not remove established tarnish. For basic cleaning, add a few drops of mild dish soap to warm water. Gently clean the jewelry with a soft cloth or soft-bristled toothbrush, rinse thoroughly, and dry it completely.
For heavier tarnish, you can use a commercial silver cleaner available at most major U.S. retailers. Choose one specifically labeled for sterling silver and follow the directions exactly.
